Party policies compared Industrial and Employment

The Greek government is expected to announce in the days to come measures meaning to ease the repercussions the global financial crisis has brought on. According to information, the measures will consist of a package of interventions to protect real economy, with emphasis being put on growth and employment, and support the low-income earners.

With all eyes fixed on the weaker chain of the society, namely the unemployed, the pensioners, as well as those working in sectors that are expected be hit by the crisis, the government is working on a package of measures to minimize the repercussions.

Employment Minister Fani Palli-Petralia said that the Ministry is preparing a plan to cement jobs, by boosting those who are most likely to lose their jobs.

"We are working alongside with the social bodies, the trade unions, and the package of interventions will be ready as soon as I wrap up my cooperation with the small and medium-sized businessmen, and the reps of Tourism and construction, to address anything that may come up," said the Employment Minister.

"I believe that everyone has finally come to realize the extent of the global crisis, and what the government has to do now with its policy is to safeguard economy, focusing its attention to those who find it hard to make ends meet," underlined Deputy Finance Minister G. Papathanasiou.

"Greece is handling the global financial crisis in a rather effective manner and the repercussions are milder than in other EU nations. United, we have to cement our country's interests," argued Deputy Development Minister Giorgos Vlahos.

At the Inner Cabinet meeting that has been scheduled for Wednesday, Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis will elaborate on the social dimensions of the crisis. The business' viability, mortgages and employment are the three pillars the government's attention has been focused on.
