GCC President Names V. P. of Information Technology

Dr. Velvie Green, president of Glendale Community College, announced June 16 that she has selected Gregory S. Rogers, most recently Vice President for Administration at Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois, as the Vice President of Information Technology at GCC. Rogers has accepted her offer and will begin July 1, subject to approval by the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board on June 24.

Green said, "It is with great pleasure that I announce my decision. I look forward to the leadership and vision I am sure Greg will provide as we continue to develop and grow our IT services."

Rogers spent the last five years at Black Hawk College, and has worked in community colleges since 1996. He is not only a passionate community college administrator; he is a product of community colleges, having begun his education with an A.A. degree from Rainey Harper College in 1982.

He then earned a B.S. in psychology from Elmhurst College in 1986, and an MBA in 2000 from Northern Illinois University. At this point in his career, he was already functioning as a community college administrator.

In 2003, after accepting the position of VP for Information Technology Systems at Black Hawk College, he began work on his PhD in Education Administration at Illinois State University. To date, he has completed all coursework, has passed his comprehensive examination, and is pursuing a dissertation on the topic of student persistence of community college students who are under-prepared in mathematics.

In addition to his administrative and Information Technology experience, Rogers also has classroom teaching experience, project management experience and applications management experience. He also developed sharp discussion/compromise skills during a time when he handled collective bargaining negotiations for three employee groups at Black Hawk College.
