Quinn to head Suffolk s Department of Information Technology
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy has nominated Gary Quinn of Old Field to be commissioner of the Department of Information Technology.
Quinn has over 20 years management and development experience with Computer Associates, having most recently been executive vice president of the firm's Worldwide Partners division. Quinn has also served as executive vice president in the sales division, and in the global information and administrative services division.
Quinn will succeed Sharon Cates-Williams as commissioner, who left earlier this year to take a position with New York State's Office for Technology.
Quinn, a Hofstra University graduate with a degree in computer science, appeared before the county Legislature's Ways and Means Committee Sept. 10 at and was presented for confirmation by the full Legislature at its Sept. 16 meeting.
The Department of Information Technology was created by Levy in 2005 to consolidate and centralize IT functions which were being performed independently among various county departments, enhance efficiency and upgrade the county's geographic information systems and internet capabilities. Quinn will supervise a 93-person department with a $17 million annual budget.
