MySpace Fills Out Advertising Marketing Ranks

MySpace today announced a spate of appointments among its senior advertising and marketing ranks designed to shore up engineering, business development, advertising, marketing and customer-care divisions.

Notable among the new hires is Abe Thomas as VP-online marketing, entrusted to head MySpace's efforts to acquire new customers through online advertising, affiliates and search marketing. Mr. Thomas had previously led eBay's paid-search and natural-search programs and managed eBay India's internet marketing program.

Graduating from MTV
Angela Courtin, previously VP-integrated marketing for MTV Networks, will assume the newly created role of senior VP-marketing, responsible for leading the branding, promotions, events and entertainment teams for the social-networking site.

Other executive appointments include Tish Whitcraft in the senior VP-customer care role, coming off a stint as VP-global customer experience and operations at Ooma, a consumer voice-over-internet-protocol start-up; Manu Thapar, senior VP-engineering, formerly VP-engineering for Yahoo; and Jason Oberfest, defecting from his post as managing director of business development and product management at the Los Angeles Times, and taking up the mantle of VP of business development for MySpace.

The appointments come after MySpace's announcement that it would move its headquarters to Playa Vista, Calif., in 2009.
