Before you can choose a Billing Center, you need to pre-define your goals. Some practices benefit by outsourcing their billing to keep patient care separate from billing and reimbursement issues.

It is true that medical billing or practice management is not being taken lightly. I’m not here to tell that anyone can do it. I’m here to tell you that, as physicians, you must choose company with extra care because your practice depends on it. It is very hard to find out your goals initially, but nowadays it is very easy while having electronic equipments. Just kidding!! Now what to consider while choosing a best medical billing company, simply follow the baby steps that may lead you to the right destination:
- Identify your needs and requirements, take a tour to their website and see what a medical billing company can do for your practice.
- They must be doing medical billing in real time.
- Are they HIPPA compliant?
- Compilation and tracking of payment from third parties and patients.
- Security must be prime issue while managing a practice.
- Data entry of patient’s demographic and billing information, charges, receipts and adjustments…
- Production of management reports.
- Production and submission of claims, both electronic and paper based medical record submission.
- Go beyond reference check.

You must ask some very important questions before go beyond reference checks:
• Does the billing service live up to its commitments?
• How smooth was the conversion to that service?
• Did the practice encounter any hidden costs or surprises?
• Does the service's customer support meet the practice's needs at least 95 percent of the time?
• How well does the company solve problems?
• How attentive is the company to special needs?
• What, if any, problems has the practice encountered?
• Does the company stay on top of changes in the industry?
• Would the practice recommend the billing service without reservations? If not, what are the reservations?
