Fairfax Media Launches Online only Newspaper

Fairfax Media today launched WAtoday.com.au, Western Australia's first online-only newspaper. Based in Perth, it shares facilities with colleagues at the group's Radio 6PR.

Roy Fleming was appointed WAtoday.com.au managing editor, leading nine experienced multimedia journalists.

"As well as providing a new perspective on news, business, technology, sport, lifestyle and entertainment, WAtoday.com.au will give our readers a voice on issues that are important to them, through a range of forums and blogs," Fairfax CEO David Kirk said in a statement announcing the new Web site.

"We know there is high demand from advertisers for WAtoday.com.au," said Fairfax Digital CEO Jack Matthews. "Inventory has sold out for the launch, and we are pleased to have the support of both national and local advertisers."

WAtoday.com.au also will open the Fairfax Digital network to Western Australia advertisers, allowing them to reach more than nine million people across the country through 30-plus Web sites, according to the company.
