Jersey pitches offshore finance offering to Manchester professionals
Jersey’s finance industry will be showcasing its trust and wealth management services to finance professionals in Manchester for the first time this month.
A delegation from Jersey, the Channel Islands, will visit Manchester on Monday, March 10, in order to give a lunch presentation entitled ‘Offshore Trusts for Private Clients – Still Alive and Kicking?’.
The event, which starts at 12noon and finishes at 2.30pm, is hosted and organised by Jersey Finance Limited, the representative arm of the finance industry in Jersey, and takes place at The Lowry Hotel. A similar presentation will take place in Leeds the following day.
Expert speakers will give a series of short presentations that focus on Jersey as a leading trust jurisdiction and demonstrate that the Island continues to offer many opportunities for private client wealth management work, despite recent changes announced by HM Revenue & Customs in relation to the UK resident non-domiciliary rules.
Robert Kirkby, technical director at Jersey Finance, will give an overview of the trust and wealth management services offered by Jersey. He will be joined by Reg Day, National Director of Tax Investigations at KPMG, who will focus on the relationship between HMRC and Jersey; and Naomi Rive, a Jersey Advocate and English Barrister at law firm Appleby, who will outline the advantages of using Jersey for private client business. Completing the line-up in Manchester will be Brian White, Tax Partner at Deloitte & Touche in Manchester, who will give a UK perspective and explain the tax opportunities for using Jersey.
The speakers will also take part in a panel session to discuss a wide range of related issues and respond to questions from those attending the event.
Jersey Finance’s Kirkby said: “With radical and unprecedented changes to the tax and domiciles rules in the UK imminent, it is particularly important to talk to trust professionals and advisers in the major UK finance centres about Jersey’s financial services industry. Our presentations will give us an opportunity to explore further business opportunities with those trust lawyers, accountants and wealth management professionals based locally who might already be doing business with Jersey.
“It will also enable us to highlight our services to professionals who may not be so familiar with Jersey’s range of private client services, whilst also dispelling some of the myths about the Island as a jurisdiction and highlighting the depth and breadth of experience of our wealth management industry and the enduring strength of our regulatory regime.”
