Breaking news from ihotdesk the home of IT outsourcing in London

Many large businesses are choosing to cut their IT budgets, but lots plans to increase outsourcing within the company, according to new research.

Forrester conducted a poll of 950 senior IT managers in the US and Europe, with 43 per cent of respondents revealing they plan to cut their spending due to the economic downturn.

However, the same number say they have increased their use of infrastructure outsourcing and are planning to move more work offshore.

The survey also found 14 per cent plan to investigate increasing their offshoring, with only nine per cent currently using it "wherever and whenever possible".

Levels of satisfaction remain low in the industryand, while a third report to be pleased they moved services, over half say cost savings are not as high as expected.

The Times recently reported much of the appeal with outsourcing is the reduced cost by giving work to an area where labour costs are lower.
