Man pleads not guilty to abduction endangering
A Zanesville man pleaded not guilty to one count of abduction and two counts of child endangering in a Muskingum County Common Pleas court Wednesday.
Judge Kelly Cottrill accepted the plea from Joshua N. Skinner, 25, who was indicted by a grand jury last week. Skinner is accused of forcibly taking Gloria Skinner from the parking lot of Bogey's Bar in the Vista View Area just north of Zanesville on Dec. 20.
Two children were in the vehicle Skinner used, according to court records. Skinner then drove to a house in the Brownsville area and when deputies arrived at the Licking County home, they discovered Gloria Skinner and the two children unharmed.
Skinner's bond was modified by Cottrill to $25,000 cash, property or surety.
Two Zanesville residents -David R. Taylor, 28, and Karrie A. Brewer, 27 -pleaded not guilty to robbery charges. Taylor entered the pleas to one count of robbery and one count of theft while Brewer entered the pleas to one count of complicity to robbery and one count of complicity to theft.
The charges stem from an incident on Dec. 25, when the couple is accused of robbing the Movie Gallery on Maysville Pike.
According to Col. Bryan Hoover of the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office, Taylor assaulted a female employee at the video store as the woman was leaving the store to make a bank deposit.
A witness who saw the assault began following Taylor and got a license plate number and description of the car leaving the area and called that information in to the sheriff's office.
As deputies were on their way to the store, they observed the car on East Main Street in South Zanesville and pulled the car over near East Main and Old River Road.
Brewer, who was driving the car, has no arrest record, Hoover said, but Taylor is currently on parole after being convicted on charges of theft and forgery.
Taylor's bond was continued at $50,000 cash, property or surety and Brewer's bond was continued at $25,000 cash, property or surety.
William W. Tyo, 23, of Zanesville, entered a not guilty plea to one count of fleeing and eluding. Tyo was arrested Dec. 22 after leading law enforcement officials on a high speed chase that started near the Maple Avenue on-ramp to Interstate 70 that evening and continued to New Concord before heading back to Zanesville, according to authorities.
The chase started when Trooper Shawn Allar said he ran the license plate of a red Cavalier as it was entering I-70. The plate number came back to a blue 1996 Chrysler. But the driver failed to stop when Allar tried to pull him over and the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.
The chase continued on U.S. 40 toward New Concord at high speeds and spike strips were put on Rix Mills, but the driver managed to make a U-turn in the middle of the road and spun back west on U.S. 40 and eventually to I-70 again.
Authorities said the pursuit continued back to Zanesville with the Cavalier taking the Maple Avenue exit and then venturing onto Ball Street and a back alley to Commissioner Street coming back onto I-70 and heading east once again.
At one point Allar said Tyo turned off the lights of the car and then turned them back on as his car sped along the highway at speeds of 110 mph.
At Ohio 93 exit, Tyo turned off the freeway, went through the stop sign and through the traffic light on U.S. 40 and headed back west into the city before stopping near the Pump and Pantry.
Tyo's bond was continued at $50,000 cash, property or surety.
