Tax preparation assistance still available
Free tax preparation is still available for taxpayers who normally don’t file a tax return but must this year to receive their stimulus checks.
The Coalition for Economic Improvement, in conjunction with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, is open from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays through June 24 in the lobby at 2717 S. Vista Avenue, Boise.
The service is aimed at taxpayers without a filing requirement, such as those who receive Social Security benefits, certain VA benefits, Railroad retirement and low income recipients.
"With tax preparation sites being so busy until April 15 preparing returns for the majority of Idaho citizens, residents who are not required to file can wait until after the rush to file their 2007 returns so they get their stimulus payments," said Jean Carl, IRS Spokeswoman for Idaho.
Applicants must bring their Social Security card, picture ID, proof of qualifying income and bank account information for direct deposit. Visitor must use parking space available at the site only.
