Venture Capital Q2 investment in India 158 mln vs 163 mln year earlier study
Venture Capital (VC) firms invested $158 million over 26 deals in India in the three months to June, marginally lower than the $163 million they invested over 25 deals a year earlier, according to a study by Venture Intelligence in partnership with the U.S.-India Venture Capital Association.
The latest figures take venture investments during the six months to June 2008 to $340 million through 51 investments, against $363 million in 55 deals a year earlier, Venture Intelligence told Thomson Financial News.
'VC investment activity as well as amounts invested during the first half of 2008 has not been affected much by the turmoil in the global financial markets,' said Arun Natarajan, founder and chief executive of Venture Intelligence.
He said that while IT companies continue to account for most of the investments, it is quite significant that the proportion of non-IT investments, by activity and value, has now climbed to 40 percent.
'VC investments are increasingly focusing on alternative energy, media, retail and other consumer demand-led sectors, Natarajan added.
